This year's conference has something for every parent traveling this PWS and SYS journey. Attend interactive workshops designed to provide practical tools and strategies for families and caregivers. Learn about behavior management techniques, educational approaches, current therapies, and more to support individuals with PWS and SYS in their daily lives. Presenter Highlight   (3)-1-1Behavior and Mental Health: Ages 5 and Up

Behavior and mental health issues are prevalent in people with PWS and SYS. Join our expert panel to learn what you can do to support your loved one.

Patrice Carroll and Elizabeth Roof will discuss behavior strategies you can implement in your home; Dr. Lauren Schwartz will discuss mental health; and Dr. Deepan Singh will discuss anxiety and how it can be treated.

Following the panel discussion, there will be small roundtable discussions.

Therapeutic Challenges and Solutions: Ages 0–2

Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapy early intervention are so important for your child with PWS. Join our expert panel from Walker Therapy Services to learn more about the challenges children face and therapeutic solutions to support them. 

Speakers: Nicole Walker Geringer, OT and President of Walker Therapy Services, Kristen Pruitt- physical therapist, and Kathleen Hardgrove-Amukamara, speech-language pathologist.  Following the panel presentations, there will be a small round table discussion.



Understanding and Utilizing Your Insurance Benefits with Brian Kalasek

This discussion will primarily center on understanding and utilizing your Employer sponsored health insurance benefits, but will also plan to touch on state provided Medicaid, along w/ ancillary benefits that are typically provided by employers. With the goal of providing a working knowledge of these benefits and why they are particularly important when you have a child w/ special needs. 

The First 48 Hours: Simple but Important Rapid Estate Planning With Mark Roth

Every family should have a comprehensive estate plans and Special Needs Trusts. But what happens if you don’t make it home from dinner, or If you’re suddenly incapacitated? This talk will provide some simple and inexpensive steps that could make a big difference.

Melissa became involved with FPWR in 2014 after her son, Kemett, was diagnosed with PWS. That year she hosted her first One SMALL Step Walk which raised over $115,000 and earned herself the honor of hosting the FPWR conference in Austin, TX in 2015. Melissa has over 9 years of fundraising and development experience and a Masters in Social Work from The University of Texas with an emphasis on Community and Administrative Leadership. Melissa will be assisting with database management and administrative duties.
